The Government of Assam has officially started the online application process for the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award 2026 under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme. This prestigious scheme provides free scooters  to meritorious students who secured 80% or more marks in the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination 2026 conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).

Purpose of the Scheme




The Government of Assam introduced this merit award to encourage academic excellence and support deserving students in pursuing higher education.



The main objectives are:


* Encourage students to achieve better academic performance.


* Motivate students to continue higher education.


* Improve mobility by providing personal transportation.


* Increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education institutions across Assam.










Eligibility Criteria




Candidates must satisfy the following conditions:


* Must have secured 80% or more marks in the HS Final Examination 2026 conducted by ASSEB.


* Must be a permanent resident of Assam.


* Students admitted to educational institutions outside Assam are also eligible if they possess a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam.


* Students appearing in the betterment or re-appearance category are not eligible.


* Applications will be accepted only through the online portal. Offline applications will not be considered.








Application Process





Eligible students can apply online for the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award 2026 by following the steps below:

After successful submission, download or print the acknowledgement/application form for future reference.

Selection Process




The Directorate of Higher Education will collect the list of students who secured 80% or above from ASSEB. After verification:


The process includes:


1. Publication of eligible student list.


2. Online application by eligible students.


3. Verification of application details.


4. Publication of provisional beneficiary list.


5. Claims and objections period.


6. Publication of final beneficiary list.


7. Distribution of appreciation certificates through Nodal Principals.


8. Collection of scooters from allotted dealers.








Scooter Distribution Process




After successful verification:



* Students will receive an Appreciation Certificate from the designated Nodal Principal.


* The certificate must be submitted to the allotted scooter dealer.


* Registration and insurance charges will be paid by the Government through the Nodal Principal.


* Students are not required to pay for registration or insurance.


* One helmet will also be provided free of cost.


* Any optional accessories will have to be purchased by the beneficiary.

* Incorrect or false information may result in rejection of the application.

* Girl students who receive a scooter under the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award (Pragyan Bharati Scheme) will not be eligible for the Nijut Moina Scheme. However, if an eligible girl student chooses not to accept the scooter, she can apply for the Nijut Moina Scheme instead.
